Create a QR code for Your Resume

A QR code is a two-dimensional (2D) matrix barcode that can hold thousands of alphanumeric characters of information. They are similar to the barcodes used to identify products and track inventory, but they can hold much more information.
QR codes are being widely used as they can easily be scanned by smart phones like Iphone and Android. Once the QR code is scanned, the user is taken to a link - a web page, text, phone numbers, or SMS.

The Uses of QR Codes

Due to their flexibility and ease of access, QR codes have numerous uses for business and individuals. Businesses use QR codes to promote websites, web videos, events, and contact information by adding the codes to business cards.
The use of QR codes by individuals has recently been explored as a tool for self-promotion, especially when it comes to internship and job search. A great example became popular on the web as a French designer called Victor Petit used a QR code to help him find an internship. Check it out!

Should I Add a QR Code to my Resume?

This can be a great way for you to keep potential employers updated. If you add a QR code to your resume and, a year or two from today, an employer finds your resume on their database, they can use the code to check out your LinkedIn profile, for example. This one should always be updated! You can also create a professional website that will keep track of your latest accomplishments and credentials.

How can I create a QR Code for my Resume?

Google offers a simple and FREE solution for creating QR Codes. To create your QR code:
1. Copy the URL of your professional website or your LinkedIn Public Profile Page;
2. Go to http://goo.gl/ to create a shortened URL;
3. To create the QR code, click on the Details tab on the right and this will bring up your QR code.
