Despite my constant Google + bashing and many claiming that it is already dead Paul Allen (Who studies the number of users it has on a regular basis) has just released some research that shows Google+ is actually growing at a stunning rate and has just passed 65 million users. If the numbers are true and they keep growing at this pace Google + could become a very real competitor to the likes of Facebook and Twitter. What remains to be seen is just how active these users are and the big question is if Google are just pushing them to sign up via their various properties. I know lots of people who have signed up to the service for a quick nosy but I know very few who actually use it on a daily basis. Possibly the best nugget of information from the research is the following…
What is really remarkable is that nearly 1/4th of all Google+ users (24.01% to be precise) will have joined in December alone. If this rate of new signups (625k daily) continues then Google+ will reach 100 million users on Feb. 25th and 200 million users on August 3. They will finish 2012 with 293 million users.
I suspect the largest portion of sign ups is coming from new Android activations (there are currently about 700k a day) with Google again showing their muscle. We’ve also seen adverts in recent times that are appearing on TV and plus has been integrated with lots of other products including search, Youtube and Blogger.

I have to say I am surprised by the sheer volume of people signing up to the service but what I would really love to see are the levels of interaction on the site and how often these 65 million people are actually using the service. My guess is not that often.
