It was less than a year ago that Starbucks first created a mobile platform that allowed users to buy Starbucks gift cards via a free mobile app on their smartphones. Now, it’s easy to see just how popular this move has been for the coffee chain as their app has processed over 26 million transactions on iOS, BlackBerry and Android.
According to an article on CNN this morning, “Starbucks’ customers apparently are finding buying via mobile as addictive as the company’s coffee [as] one in four Starbucks card transactions is now executed via mobile.”
The article went on to quote Adam Brotman, SVP and general manager of Starbucks, as saying “in the past nine weeks, there have been 6 million [transactions through their mobile app]” and he attributes its success to convenience. He explained, “It’s a faster, easier way to pay.”
With people using mobile phones for everything now, from looking up company info to ordering products through e-commerce mobile sites, it’s easy to see just how important it is for a business to go mobile.
